A Cladmore Taco Baraco location was evacuated Saturday evening after a Category 4 intestinal event overwhelmed the restaurant's restroom infrastructure during its weekly Endless Baraco Night promotion, prompting emergency responses from both the Special Feces Forces and GAUZE (General Aid for Urgent Zone Emergencies).
Ridgewell County Emergency Management issued the evacuation order at approximately 7:40 PM. Deputy Director Opal Critch later clarified that the order pertained to the building.
"The other type of evacuation," Critch said, "had been underway since roughly 7:15."
The incident began approximately twenty-five minutes into the Saturday dinner rush, when an estimated twenty-three patrons began experiencing what first responders later classified as "synchronized gastrointestinal distress." The restaurant's restroom contains four stalls, two of which had been out of service since Wednesday for what management called "unrelated plumbing reasons." The remaining two reached capacity within minutes.
"I thought it was just me at first," said patron Desmond Prutt, 38, who was on his fourth trip to the buffet station when the first symptoms presented. "Then the man two booths over stood up with a look I recognized. Then the woman by the window. By 7:20, the restroom line was eleven deep, and I can only describe the energy in that line as... urgent."
Prutt said the queue maintained order briefly before "a kind of unspoken triage system emerged" in which patrons assessed one another's conditions through eye contact alone and yielded position accordingly. "Nobody argued," he said. "You could tell who needed to go first. It was, honestly, one of the more humane things I've ever witnessed."
The restaurant's assistant manager contacted emergency services at 7:31 PM after the restroom queue exceeded the building's posted occupancy guidance and two patrons were observed crossing the parking lot toward Murvale Hardware at what one witness described as "a pace that was not quite running but was absolutely not walking."
Special Feces Forces Sergeant Niles Borchard, who led the tactical response, described the scene on arrival as "a textbook Category 4: multi-source, cascading, no remaining containment infrastructure."
"When the restaurant's restrooms are full, the parking lot is compromised, and the hardware store across the way has locked its front door, that's your Category 4 threshold," Borchard said. "We deployed perimeter containment in six minutes, which is within protocol. I will note that our training scenarios do not typically simulate all-you-can-eat conditions."
GAUZE volunteers established a relief station in the Taco Baraco parking lot within forty minutes of the initial report. Regional Coordinator Hedda Mott said volunteers distributed blankets, water, and Shart Survival Kits to affected patrons as they were cleared to exit.
"Standard mass-event relief protocol," Mott said. "Blankets for warmth, water for hydration, and the kits for... well. For what the kits are for."
Taco Baraco Corporate Communications Director Ferris Gland released a statement late Saturday describing the incident as "an extraordinary convergence of individually manageable dining experiences" and noting that the Endless Baraco Night promotion "has been enjoyed responsibly by millions of patrons since its introduction in 2019, the vast majority of whom have exited the premises under their own power and on their own schedule."
The company declined to comment on whether the promotion would continue at the Cladmore location, stating only that it is "reviewing the interaction between promotional dining volume and municipal restroom infrastructure."
Saturday's incident marks the third Category 4 intestinal event in Ridgewell County this year, though it is the first attributed to a single establishment. The previous two, one at the Cladmore Harvest Festival in April and one during a competitive eating exhibition at the county fairgrounds in June, involved larger crowds and wider dispersal areas, which officials say reduced the per-person impact.
"Category 4 is serious, but it is manageable with adequate infrastructure," Critch said. "The issue here was concentration. Twenty-three simultaneous events in a facility with two functioning restroom stalls is less a public health crisis than it is a math problem."
O.O.P.S. has opened a preliminary inquiry into whether restaurants offering unlimited-volume dining promotions should be required to maintain minimum restroom-to-patron ratios, though a spokesperson noted the inquiry is "in its early stages" and "not expected to produce actionable guidance within the current quarterly cycle."
As of Sunday morning, the Cladmore Taco Baraco had resumed normal operations. A new placard near the entrance reads: "Endless Baraco Night patrons are encouraged to plan ahead. Restroom availability is not guaranteed."
